Discover this mural nestled along the many painted works on Magazine Lane. It was created with support from the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art by Richmond artist Matt Lively for the NEON. In 2022, the mural was repaired and slightly altered.

Blue Sky

Art professor John Rudel and Virginia Wesleyan College students collaborated on this mural located on the rear of Virginia Furniture’s building, in the art alleyway Magazine Lane.

All the Pieces Matter

Hampton artist Elizabeth Cooke returned to NEON to paint a site-specific mural full of graphic symbols and whimsy. The mural was damaged in part in 2020. In 2013 she helped beautify the old Zedd’s auction house as part of Hampton Roads, The Canvas project.

Widow’s Walk

Depicting a woman waiting for her Viking sailor to come home, this graphic and fantastical mural is a collaboration between Richmond street and comic book artists Mickael Broth and James Callahan.

Happier Times

Brightly colored fish swim around the first floor of 801 Granby Street in the OnieTonie trademark style by Troy Summerell, a featured artist in both the NEON and ViBe Districts. Based in Virginia Beach OnieTonie™ Designs takes inspiration from surfing the world’s oceans, original hand-painted designs featured on murals, clothing, coloring pages, stickers and countless Happier Times

Kaiya With Finch

After a local donor saw Richmond muralist Nils Westergard’s work he commissioned the artist to create a work for Norfolk’s then budding arts district. It was one of the first to grace Magazine Lane. Westergard has gone on to paint dozens of murals across the US and abroad.

Razzle Dazzle

One of the first murals in the NEON District, Nick Kuszyk’s bright colors and patterns are now a Norfolk icon, taking inspiration from dazzle patterns used to camouflage battleships during World War I.

Mr. Frog

Sam Hundley, a former illustrator and designer for The Virginian-Pilot, is a master of art using found objects, and Mr. Frog is no exception. The metal sculpture was refreshed and reinstalled on its lily pad in 2021.

NEON Festival

The 9th annual NEON Festival returned to NFK October 18 & 19, 2024. The nights were lit with performances, music, murals, art and more! Stay tuned for 2025's tenth anniversary celebration!

Hundreds of artists have passed through NEON walls over the years. Big or small, international or your next door neighbor, high school student or college professor - artists of all kinds and skill levels are welcome to contribute to the NEON District's public art collection.
