Great America XVII: Remember the Honored Fallen

132 W. Olney Road, Norfolk, VA 23510

Sam Welty

Great America XVII is a simple and reverent tribute to the sacrifice of the men and women in the United States military and their families created by local muralist Sam Welty. The figures are shown with little beyond their branch and service decoration. They are depicted from the neck down to allow the viewer to visualize the soldier as a friend, family, and or even themselves as someone who sacrifices themselves for others.

It was commissioned by NEON District business owner Ed O’Brien as a tribute to his military family members.
