NEON District Public Art Tour: Celebrating the Influence of Black Artists

The Plot
776 Granby Street
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Discover the immense impact of Black Artists in the NEON District since its very start in this free walking tour from Norfolk Tour Company. From some of the first murals painted by local Black artists to significant works by Norfolk State University faculty and students to Black Lives Matter-themed murals, the tour will introduce attendees to the many ways the African-American experience has influenced the NEON’s collection of street art.

This NEON tour will be led by Charles Rasputin, one of the co-founders of the movement to create the NEON District. Charles is a community organizer, DJ, painter, creative project manager and event planner. From the NEON Festival to the mural Bloom to the pioneering gallery Work|Release, he has been shaping the NEON for more than a decade.

The tour begins at The Plot, located at the corner of Granby Street and Olney Road, and will last about an hour. The tour lasts approximately 60 minutes and is held rain or shine. Wear comfortable shoes as this tour involves walking on uneven surfaces.

NEON District public parking is available on the street, at the Plot’s parking lot and the Harrison Opera House lot.
