A Star Is Born: Hurrah’s Academy

Introducing “The Academy!” While this Hurrah Players project has been waiting in the wings for more than a year now, it’s officially out on stage. The very first television and film academy in Hampton Roads is now under construction in the former Glass Wheel Studio at 128 W. Olney Road. The contractor broke ground last October and it is expected to be complete in summer 2024, just in time for student classes to start in September.

This “dream come true” will enable The Hurrah Players to create a consolidated campus of operations in the NEON District. This dream campus will not only provide the famed family theater troupe with expanded facilities for the Performing Arts Academy, but also with state-of-the-art equipment to teach performance specifically in the TV and film worlds. Across the street from the Hugh R. Copeland Center, the new academy gives young performers and families access to everything Hurrah offers, all within walking distance to the NEON District’s local businesses.
